Reconnect or Disconnect Gas Service

Page Content

Need a reconnect of service and there is already a meter at the site?

Your retailer has to authorize a reconnect of service to ATCO Gas. Please contact your retailer first.

Call your retailer to request an energize. The number will be located on your retailer’s monthly bill. Ask your retailer to warm transfer you to the ATCO Gas Customer Assistance Centre. We must talk with you before we can issue a field order. We will ask you to agree to pay the applicable reconnect fee and let you know about specific safety conditions we need to confirm so that we may come to your property to turn on the service and re-light natural gas appliances. We then can leave your property knowing you have active gas service.

If you do not yet have a retailer, you need to first choose a retailer (www.ucahelps.gov.ab.ca) so that an account can be setup for you. Call the retailer to setup an account for you.

Please keep in mind most municipalities require its residents to arrange for a qualified heating professional to inspect the internal house piping and obtain a permit certifying this has been completed. ATCO Gas will be unable to proceed with your request until we have the permit.

Same day service to reconnect service may not always be available. Weekend service may be available only in Edmonton and Calgary. If you are making these requests and ATCO Gas is available, there is a higher reinstatement fee you must agree to pay as per our Terms and Conditions.

Do you need service restored because it was off when you moved in?

You will need to select a retailer to setup an account for you. For a list of retailers in your area, visit www.ucahelps.gov.ab.ca or call 310-4-UCA (310-4822) in Alberta and (780) 644-5130 outside Alberta. You have the option of receiving natural gas service from a regulated rate provider or a competitive retailer. After your retailer has completed its process to ensure ATCO Gas has received your retailer’s name on this site, then you will need to contact your retailer again and ask to be transferred to the ATCO Gas call centre to provide authorization to proceed with restoring service.

Has service been turned off since you have been at the property and you were left a pink card (“Notice of Disconnected Gas Service”) or green card (“Retailer’s Important Notice”)?

You will need to call the retailer noted on that card. After your have met your retailer’s requirements, ask to be transferred to the ATCO Gas call centre to have your retailer provide authorization to proceeding with restoring service.

Are you wanting service restored after it was turned off for the season?

If you already have an account with a retailer, contact your retailer and request the retailer provide ATCO Gas with an energize and transfer you to the ATCO Gas call centre to provide authorization to proceed with restoring service.

Do you need a meter re-installed after a renovation?

If you already have an account with a retailer, contact your retailer and request the retailer provide ATCO Gas with an energize and transfer you to the ATCO Gas call centre to provide authorization to proceed with restoring service.

If you do not have an account with a retailer yet, you will need to first contact your choice of retailer to set that up. How quickly does service get restored?

It depends. After ATCO Gas receives the proper authorization from your retailer, ATCO Gas will review its already scheduled orders and advise you of the earliest available timeframe and the reconnect fee that applies. Upon your acceptance of the day available and fee, our agent will proceed to book the time when a service person will come to your home or business to restore service. Depending on time of year, your appointment could be several days in the future.

A retailer cannot tell you when service will be reconnected by ATCO Gas. The timeframe is determined by ATCO Gas based on availability at the time your retailer authorizes a reconnect.

Please note:
  • ATCO Gas charges a reconnection fee that is billed to your retailer on the first monthly statement after service is restored. Current fees can be found in our Terms and Conditions Schedule C
  • Your municipality may require a permit if service remained off longer than six months. If this occurs, you will be required to make arrangements with a qualified heating professional to complete the work for you at cost.
  • If the meter has been removed, most municipalities require you obtain a permit. If this occurs, you will be required to make arrangements with a qualified heating professional to complete the work for you at cost.
  • Please also check with your retailer for more information on their reconnection fees.

Temporary turn off of service

This is a service that must be requested to your retailer and ATCO Gas will complete.

Contact your retailer and ask for a de-energize of service. Your retailer will need to send the request to ATCO Gas so that we may issue an order.

Please keep in mind:
  • ATCO Gas will charge a reconnect fee following a de-energize of service. Current fees can be found in our Terms and Conditions, Schedule C
